Tag-alongs
Ready to depart from Farina, SA.
We warmly welcome Tag-alongs and regularly have them with us. Many people find that driving their own vehicle is a great experience. We understand that some may not have all the mechanical, navigation or survival skills necessary for Outback travel alone, but would benefit from the assistance of an experienced guide like us. In particular, families and children are welcome.
Tag-alongs are normally catered for by The Real Outback.
Your vehicle needs to be a high clearance 4WD with high and low ratios. Due to the nature of outback travel, upgraded suspension is recommended. The tyres must have >50% tread and you'll need to carry a 2nd spare tyre mounted on a rim. Due to the unavailability of 18" and greater diameter tyres in the Outback, some vehicles are unsuitable - please check with us. Your 4WD must be fully maintained, in a roadworthy condition, be comprehensively insured and have a hard wired 5 watt UHF radio. A roof rack is also preferred.
If you are bringing a camper trailer, it should be well maintained, be of heavy duty construction, have an off road coupling and be equipped with a spare tyre as well. Ideally it will have the same rims & tyres as your tow vehicle, and have the same track. That is, it will follow exactly in your vehicle's path/tyre imprint.
It's likely we'll ask you to carry a few supplies and some water to help us all out.
Naturally enough, we'll lead you and assist you should any vehicle help (tyres, mechanical, retrieval from a bog, etc) be needed. Please be aware that we do not offer a full mechanical and repair service.
