What to bring
Please remember that space is at a premium and accordingly, pack lightly.
General bag
Pack your gear in an airtight soft bag, (not a suitcase) without wheels. Include some plastic bags as they are useful for storing wet or dirty clothes.
Please do not bring a hard framed bag or rucksack/large backpack, as they are extremely difficult for us to pack securely. Your bag weight should not exceed 13 kgs. Maximum size should not exceed 750 mm x 400 mm.
The golden rule is : do not pack too much.

Here’s our suggested list:
- Personal drinking water bottle - 1 litre size is recommended
- Wet wipes to freshen up with
- Fly & mosquito repellent
- Flynet
- Suncream & Lip balm
- Sunglasses - and, if you wear them, spare prescription glasses
- Toilet bag
- Medications
- Broad brimmed hat
- Beanie for the cool winter nights
- Warm jacket
- Rainproof jacket - it may double as your warm jacket
- Jumper
- Shirts with collars and long sleeves. Because of potential sunburn and skin damage, Tee-shirts are not really suitable.
- Long trousers
- Shorts
- Bathers
- Towel & face washer. Note that Pears soap will lather in hard water.
- Underwear & socks
- Stout boots (Sock gaiters are a good idea to keep pesky burrs and seeds out, especially if you are wearing shorts and not relying on trouser legs for protection)
- Lighter shoes or sandals for water wear or for relaxing
- Long johns etc for cold desert nights
- Leather gloves - rigger's gloves are very handy for protection while collecting firewood
- Head torch - significantly better than a hand held torch. Pack spare batteries.
- Spare batteries and/or charger for camera - we have an inverter to assist with re-charging devices.
- Small container for washing in - a small empty plastic container is suitable (e.g. 500 ml margarine tub)
- Garbage bag x 2 - this can cover your personal bag & keep it dry should the weather be inclement.
- Whistle in case of emergency
- Personal contacts list in case of emergency
